Terms such as “immigrants” or “refugees” push us into thinking of people from outside the UK as an undifferentiated mass. I wanted to consider them as individuals, each with relationships with people born in the UK.
So, I asked British-born people to think of people born overseas who have made their home in Oxford – and to whom they are grateful. I found many volunteers who wanted to thank people from India, Germany, Columbia, Iran and many other places, who have come to the UK to teach, to heal, to support – and to make friends.
These photos will be exhibited in Frideswide Square Oxford from June until September 2017, thanks to support from the Oxford Festival of the Arts.
